Defending Against Information & Communication Threats Workshop

Build better defences from a deeper understanding of how everyday advertising technology can be weaponised.

Workshop Synopsis

Advertising technology & digital marketing tools are the new emerging security threats that will catch most cyber security and risk mitigation teams off-guard.

With misinformation and disinformation being the name of the game, both government and commercial entities must be prepared to defend against such threats that employ ‘legitimate use, with malicious intent’, and to confront a slew of freshly-empowered, digitally-savvy adversaries that are easily weaponising everyday social and digital media marketing tools.

This 2-day workshop is designed to introduce participants to these technology, tools, tactics and security threats at a practical level. Red Teaming exercises on the second day will help teams anticipate attacks as well as consider the right plans, policies and responses to help improve and make existing defences more robust.

These are some key questions that the workshop aims to address:

  • What technology and tools are available?

  • How are these technology and tools being exploited?

  • What are the attack strategies and tactics being used?

  • How can we defend against them?

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand how the technology & tools are exploited
